The Ornavik historical park has expanded with the addition of a new area: a motte-and-bailey castle whose watchtower rises over 24 meters high.
In a uniquely natural Norman setting, discover the world of Norman lords and their everyday lives.
Campsites, period furnishings, coin striking workshops, embroidery, castle attack and defense demonstrations — ducal Normandy comes to life thanks to our historical interpreters and the reenactment group Les Vikings – An 911.
JOIN US AT ORNAVIK FROM AUGUST 7 TO 9
for three festive days celebrating the 2nd edition of the “Duchy of Normandy Festival.”
On the program: hands-on workshops, scavenger hunts, educational games, and mini-conferences with our guides. Kids and adults alike can try archery, palisade and Viking tent assembly, and watch combat demonstrations by the 11th-century reenactment troupe Dex Aïe.
With the help of a battlefield diorama and painted tin soldiers, the famous Battle of Hastings will be brought to life by the association Chantres et Chroniqueurs, who will walk you through the troop movements, military strategies, and the historic victory of the Duke of Normandy over King Harold.
From the Carolingian village with its artisan workshops and church under construction, to the Viking trading post and docked ship — the ducal era now rises at Ornavik with its motte-and-bailey castle and wooden keep.
