The educational approach

THE ORNAVIK ADVENTURE

Ornavik Park is a medieval park that offers you a unique opportunity to meet volunteers who play the roles of inhabitants, craftsmen, farmers and merchants. When you walk through the large wooden entrance gate, you are immediately immersed in another world, out of the ordinary.

You escape the hustle and bustle of modern life and enter the tranquillity of nature, surrounded by the crackling of the fire and the sound of hand saws. You adopt the slow pace of a walk, a conversation in the shade of the trees, the construction of stone walls by hand or the manual craft of jewellery making.

The educational objective of Ornavik Park is to discover and relearn ancestral crafts (thatching, shingle making, cob construction, clothing manufacture). On site, volunteers fully immerse themselves in medieval culture. In this veritable conservatory of traditional crafts, you will discover how craftsmen worked and how families lived at the time.

Are you a family looking to plan a cultural outing in the great outdoors? Do you work with children and want to organise a dynamic educational outing? Come and join us for an unforgettable experience where you can learn while having fun and take home lasting memories of Normandy's history, which we present through a variety of activities.

Because our goal is to make knowledge accessible to as many people as possible, we have chosen to keep the admission price low. We want to democratise knowledge. However, this pricing policy is only possible thanks to the investment of numerous volunteers and contributions from donors and private and public sponsors who support the project in a spirit of community and participation.

What you need to know ...

Ornavik welcomes socially responsible tourism, which allows visitors to take an active role in their experience. Both nature-oriented and cultural, the park is strongly focused on the simple transmission of knowledge and exchanges with other European countries.

As proof of this, the association Les Vikings, An 911 has forged links throughout France, as well as with many Scandinavian and British countries, in order to carry out fruitful exchanges of skills. The recent Rollon march perfectly illustrates this European strategy.
